Initial research task

 Initial research for the brief

To begin this project we needed to do research on products but also on the actual meaning and interpretations of the words sustainable, luxurious and illustrative. Understanding these is key to successfully completing this module.

Initially I just created mind maps of the concepts above and explored those a little bit including some research of examples.

I then went on to find and select a series of products that I felt demonstrated this well including one from each that I did not like. The analysis of these is on the scan.

Myself and my Fiancé had to go shopping that day too and so I took that as an opportunity to find real world examples and create a mood board. I went into the supermarket and studied the shelves, anything that drew my attention for one of the above reasons I then photographed. Not only was this helpful for the task but it also helps me in the next task where I need to select some brands I would consider working with.

I also took some time to document the 17 goals of sustainability because I didn't know that sustainability was more than just environmental. I wanted to make sure I had a firm understanding of some of the other goals as well as a point of reference in my sketchbook to refer to throughout this project.

I then moved onto the next task and came up with a list of brands I am interested in working with. I chose these brands for the fact that they already covered one of the three key areas either sustainability, luxury or illustration; I did also think about brands that had potential but were not yet covering any of these points. I narrowed this down to two brands that I will be exploring further.

Before I made this selection however I had a few ideas of packaging ideas and wanted to get them down so I drew up some concepts that I had. These are by no means final designs but I want to keep hold of all my ideas throughout and see what I can take from them for the final design. It allowed me to start thinking of potential ideas and kickstart that creative process.
